Why it fits
Enough room for regular meals without making the pot unnecessarily heavy.
Cocotte size chart
The diameter tells you whether the pot fits your burner and oven. Capacity tells you how much it can comfortably hold.
Capacities follow the STAUB 2025 catalogue. Availability varies by colour and market.
Shape decision
Volume matters, but the base area, wall height and length determine how the cookware behaves day to day.

Best for
Soups, stews, bread, beans and all-purpose braising
Why it works
Even heating on a standard burner and a compact footprint make it the safest first cast-iron choice.
Choose differently when
You regularly cook long roasts, whole fish or large poultry.
Material decision
Choose the cooking behaviour first. Matching colours can come later.

Local kitchen note
Measure the usable oven shelf and hob zone, not only the cabinet opening. A 26 cm cocotte is a versatile family starting point, but a 24 cm pot is often easier in compact kitchens.
Clear answers
For many three-to-five-person households, the 26 cm / 5.25 L round cocotte is the most flexible starting point. Smaller households often prefer 24 cm / 3.8 L, while frequent batch cooks may be happier at 28 cm / 6.7 L.
Enameled cast iron is compatible with induction as well as gas, electric and ceramic cooktops. Match the flat base to the active zone and build heat gradually.
It does not require the full seasoning routine used for bare cast iron. Let it cool before washing, use non-abrasive tools and follow the current care instructions supplied with the product.
Choose cast iron when stovetop browning, braising and heat retention matter. Choose ceramic when the main job is baking, gratins, desserts or lighter oven-to-table handling.
